Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
• Develop and manage project quality scope, estimates, and deliverables.
• Identify quality risks, propose mitigation plans, and monitor implementation.
• Work closely with engineering teams, supply chain, contract management, construction management, and suppliers to ensure compliance with specifications and QA requirements.
• Provide direction for in-house and contracted field inspectors.
• Participate in strategic sourcing, define evaluation criteria, assess proposals, and perform supplier evaluations and surveillance.
• Manage supplier improvement plans and monitor progress.
• Review inspection and test plans and contractor submittals.
• Witness testing (including factory acceptance tests) and verify compliance with standards.
• Lead factory or site construction audits
• Initiate and lead resolution of non-conformities.
• Prepare clear, concise reports, memos, and project quality plans.
• Initiate new work releases with quality service providers.
• Balance technical knowledge, business sense, and communication skills to deliver efficient solutions.
• Be self-motivated and thrive in managing multiple concurrent projects (up to 10 at various stages).
Qualifications
Must haves:
• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering with 8+ years of experience (minimum 2 years in QA).
• Registered as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with EGBC.
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in MS Office, databases, and web tools.
• Demonstrated problem-solving skills.
Nice to have:
• Hydroelectric or electric utility experience (transmission, substations, generation).
• Knowledge of QA tools and methods.
• Public procurement processes.
• Auditing experience (manufacturing, construction site, or plant evaluations).
• Civil/structural design concepts and interpretation of drawings/specifications.
• Concrete mix design, testing, and repair methodologies.
• Civil inspections, soil sampling/testing, compaction analysis.
• Concrete foundations: rebar, formwork, placement, inspection/testing.
• Caissons, helical pile foundations, screw piles: installation inspection/testing.
• Pre-cast materials design and testing.
• Structural steel, welding practices, and inspections.
• Quality processes related to construction management.
